I made the 1 hour + trek to Melton from the south east of Melbourne yesterday to check out the Melton Cruise Night which is hosted by the Customline, Mainline and Rod Club of Victoria.
We had heard good things about it and it was time to check it out. They run these from September to April (daylight savings months), so next months meet is the last one until Sept 2012.
I wanted to avoid heavy traffic so I arrived quite early. Luckly there is a car wash down the road so I wasted a few minutes there while I waited for the organisers to arrive. The first thing I noticed when they did arrive is how well they work as a team and how organised they are. They started setting up the tents and bbq, and their display banner. Then they walked around and fitted rubish bags to trees and sign posts so people don't just simply dump their rubbish anywhere, which is unfortunately a common occurance at some meets. Soon aftewards some trade displays arrived and the cars began to roll in at about 6pm.
It's not as big as the Knox Cruise Night if you have been to that in Wantirna, over in the south east, but the quality of cars is definately up there. I was very impressed by the cars that turned up, and many I had not seen before at any shows. Anyway, I'm starting to ramble on so I'll let the photos do the rest of the story telling...
Petar's MY02 STI WRX is considered an affordable super car offering a lot of bang for buck.
A shame that this months Knox meet was ruined by the Police and EPA going over just about anything modified that drove into the center.
Instead of focusing on the idiots that wreck these events by leaving the venue with their wheels screaching, and the cars that belong at the metal recyclers, they focused on the rides of enthusiasts who spend a lot of time and money making sure their cars are well maintained and behave on the road, in turn killing another charity event which last season raised over $11,000.
What did they achieve by doing this?? NOTHING. Besides more revenue raising.
Most of the cars defected will just clear their defects, because that's what dedicated car enthusiasts do, they get their cars back on the road. Yet the dickheads and their cars who really should have been put off the road are still out there.
Here's a few photos from the night...
